Both thrash and power are heavily influenced by NWOBHM bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden...and there's been alot of influence going both ways since so its very understandable bands of one genre can be mistaken for the other imho. But from what I've heard thrash more typically focuses on the faster/more aggressive side of things, thus making it one the "extreme metal" genres.

I think you're right thrash has been referred to as power metal before it became known as thrash, I've always thought of "Power Metal" nowadays as mostly European such as Halloween or Strato

@steveharrismetalgod

The entire thing is melodic. The opening riff has a wonderful melody, the as does the bass line. There are catchy, great melodies all over it.

The problem with Euro power is that the guitar is often demoted to playing the same two or three backing chords as fast as possible while the vocalist goes over the top instead of making any coherent melody. The only notable melodies in Euro power tend to be the keyboards.
