President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo visited Argao in Cebu on Thursday, October 30, 2008 to bring early Christmas presents. The president led the unveiling of marker for the newly constructed President Diosdado Macapagal Cultural and Sport Complex which was undertaken by the Argao Local Government Unit and has a total project cost of 27 million pesos. The funds were sourced from the President's Social Fund (P20M), Argao LGU (P3M), Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia (P2M), Rep. Pablo Garcia (P1.5M), and Senator Miguel Zubiri (P.5M).
President Arroyo also led the launching of Wi-Max or the Argao's Information Technology Program. Wi-Max is Argao's local broadband provider that gives free wireless internet access to all their 45 barangays, and free international calls for all Argwanons. While there, the president led the groundbreaking of the P9 million worth 2-storey, 8-classroom academic building at the Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST).
