CENSORED_ Music replaced :(
Gee thanks Gail, if i ever do make money from your husband's genius, I'll let you know and I'll send you double.
Censoring Zappa's music on awful mono sound youtube is not a good idea.
Frank Zappa interview + I'm so happy I could cry, early version of "Take your clothes off when you dance" (thanks for the correction StereoM)+ Get a little + Orange County Lumber Truck + oh no, lumpy gravy version (the songs/tunes are not in that order)
well, i hope this video doesn't get taken off by the Zappa Family Trust, or should I say Gail?

"Frank Zappa's genius was so incredibly huge - most people were unable to fully understand it. Fortunately for us, Adrian Belew was privy to it...."
Sofa once said -
"""I find it less stressful - and therefor healthier - to appreciate what's out there, rather than complain about what "could be" out there. Frank gave us such a prodigeous body of work, after 30 years of listening I still can wrap my mind around it; something new gets discovered with every listen. There are not too many artists that have that kind of effect on me.
Whining and carping about Gail and the ZFT, and what is "owed" FZ's fans, just doesn't make sense to me. I don't feel that Gail or the ZFT "owe" me anything for my 30 years of support. Considering I still get off on stuff that I purchased eons ago, I figure I owe them. I certainly have had countless hours, days, weeks, years of pleasure listening to Frank's music - more enjoyment than I could ever get anywhere else for the investment I made.
So I make it a point NOT to expect anything in the form of new (or unreleased) music from the Vault. When something does get released, like OZ, or Halloween, it's like Christmas; it's a gift. How can you possibly be disappointed with a gift? (Okay, so there's that tie from Aunt Maude that has sat in the back of your closet for 18 years, but hey - it's still in the closet!) Disappointment occurs when expectations are not met. If you don't "expect" anything, you're rarely disappointed..."""

@thegirl44 As if Google were the only resource on earth.. I'm not too lazy, I just question if it is worth my time. What is your side of this issue? Are you too lazy to answer? Whatever the ZFT releases, we most likely will never really know if Frank intended it for public consumption. I agree that a good portion of it is on the shabby side but on the other hand Zappa released plenty of stuff with rough edges while he was alive. I may question the quality but not the integrity of the ZFT

Part 2
They weren't going to every dive bar on open mic night and handing C&D letters to 17 year old kids who were working out their craft they were targeting dues paying payers where the money could be followed.
My comment was not made as a statement that one must be in a union to perform rather that those who are, and in compliance with the related laws, were the ZFT's targets.
Cheers, thanks for clearing that up.

@torchandhammer
Most live music venues pay blanket dues to cover performers. The dues that I pay, as a sound tech, are similar in concept.
There's tons of ways around paying dues AND COPYRIGHT which makes your comment right, blending a copyrighted song into medley as Zappa's boys did with the Peavey Medley, for example, though to be fair Ahmet and Dweez are card carriers.
My argument was in light of ZFT targeting union members because they figured they'd get money out of it.

Part 2
As to my beef with Gail it's in the comments of this video already and I'm not one to repeat myself. I can only assume that if you're too lazy to Google something you're too lazy to examine all sides of the issue which makes you a wonderful target for the likes of the ZFT as you will consume their product without questioning the integrity of.the product or who is putting it out there.

From an interview that appeared in the L.A. Times, N.Y. Times, Denver Post, and pretty much any AP accredited paper on 09/24/2008
"Years ago my husband said, 'Sell everything and get out of this horrible business.' Did I listen? No. I tried. I really tried. But I realized early on that I have to defend his right to have been here in the first place," Gail says."
A variation of this quote also appears in a Pamela Des Barres interview with Gail that I have in print.

Hoping not to step into the middle of a foodfight here, but anybody can cover any song and play it publicly as long as it's not played from written music. Anybody can cover a song and record it as long as you pay a "mechanical license" to the copyright holder. You don't have to pay dues to have those rights. If you make a written arrangement, or use the artist's audio or video, well naturally you have to get permission.

@horowizard
Franks' asking her to get out of the industry is well documented you just have to google it.
That's the official story about the Ryko deal from ZFT this hour and minute? Okay, whatever.
thegirl44 6 days ago
@thegirl44 I don't know anything about Frank asking her to get out of the industry. I do know that part of the Ryko deal stipulated that there would be a hold on any new material for a period of time so there wouldn't be competition in the marketplace.

You assumed wrong.
And you're right, this isn't a debate: By law any union paying musician has the right to cover whatever the fuck they want live making Gail's cease and desist letters to dues paying musicians harassment, and she's using your money to carry out this harassment.
My ideal situation would be the ZFT petitioning to get the laws changed if they don't like them instead of harassing people who are in full compliance with the current ones.

@dantean
Gail Zappa took the PMRC Hearings that my tax dollars paid for by claiming that she had the copyright on them when she didn't.
Is that what you're talking about?
