It was a major milestone for commercial spaceflight today with the successful launch and re-entry of SpaceX's Dragon capsule. The privately designed SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched the Dragon capsule into orbit from Florida's Cape Canaveral this morning for a roughly three-hour demonstration flight. 

Reports say the SpaceX Dragon capsule "completed nearly two trips" around Earth before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean, where ships were sent to recover it.  SpaceX reported the successful landing on its Twitter account with one simple word: Splashdown!!!  In an additional Tweet, SpaceX said the splashdown was "on target" and called the mission "a success."  SpaceX also noted that it "is the first commercial company to re-enter a spacecraft from space."

This was the first of two planned full test flights that could ultimately lead to SpaceX providing "resupply flights" to the International Space Station.  Reports say SpaceX, a California-based company, has a $1.6 billion contract for 12 such cargo flights - which could eventually replace Space Shuttle missions, when the shuttles are retired in 2011.

Gwynne Shotwell, the president of SpaceX, tells the ''Christian Science Monitor'' that if both missions are successful, SpaceX "could launch its first space-station resupply mission" as early as November of next year.

@BenzoBee If you're saying this rocket launch is causing the ecological crisis, you obviously have some issues. Try saying your tirade to the CEO's of Coal companies who enjoy burning fossil fuels, and to the american people who could give a crap about Climate Change. But telling NASA is a complete and utter joke. Why? Because it's NASA itself who's warning the alienated public about the ecological crisis.

But nonetheless if you randomly posted this irrelevant comment here, that's different.

I say it's a fuckin tradegy that this so called civilization we're living in is not the least civilized. It's pathetic that people are so driven by economical wealth that they completely ignore the eco-system and our responsibilities to our planet

If overfishing the seas, devastating our forests, and polluting the environment is what goes for a civilized society to some, I say we've gotta fight back in every way possible.

When will enough be enough??
