Focusing on the friendship between Holmes & Watson.

I understand that a lot of people do not care for slide-shows, and I have not made one in quite a while, but I have very good reasons for doing it this time out (well, good reasons in my mind, anyway). First, I really wanted to make a Holmes/Watson video with this song, and at the moment, since the movie is not out on DVD yet, I did not have enough clips to make a decent video with actual video. Second, sometimes, a still photo can tell you so much more than a moving picture -- you can focus for a long while on the touch of a hand, the sweat on a brow, or the worry in a person's eyes. I may remake this when the DVD comes out, but I am actually pretty happy with it the way it is.

Since I didn't have very much room at the start of the video, I had to condense the passage that I quoted from "The Adventure of the Three Garridebs" - here it is in full, from just after the point where the gun is fired:

--

I felt a sudden hot sear as if a red-hot iron had been pressed to my thigh. There was a crash as Holmes's pistol came down on the man's head. I had a vision of him sprawling upon the floor with blood running down his face while Holmes rummaged him for weapons. Then my friend's wiry arms were round me, and he was leading me to a chair.

"You're not hurt, Watson? For God's sake, say that you are not hurt!"

It was worth a wound - it was worth many wounds - to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask. The clear, hard eyes were dimmed for a moment, and the firm lips were shaking. For the one and only time I caught a glimpse of a great heart as well as of a great brain. All my years of humble but single-minded service culminated in that moment of revelation.

"It's nothing, Holmes. It's a mere scratch."

He had ripped up my trousers with his pocket-knife.

"You are right," he cried with an immense sigh of relief. "It is quite superficial." His face set like flint as he glared at our prisoner, who was sitting up with a dazed face. "By the Lord, it is as well for you. If you had killed Watson, you would not have got out of this room alive. Now, sir, what have you to say for yourself?"

(The Adventure of the Three Garridebs)

The song is by Sting and Eric Clapton, and all images are property of Warner Brothers Pictures. Some were found online, others I captured from the available clips and trailers. • Wow, what a vid. The music went perfectly and the stills were lovely. Where did you find them all? Congrats on a gorgeous video, i love RDJ's Holmes and Jude's Watson.

  • @TheGoldenTomato I captured most of the pictures from the online trailers, though some I Googled - I'm glad you liked the video :)

  • Sometimes I think I love you. Ever sense the TMNT video you made, I have loved this song. Now you've put in with Sherlock and Watson, whom I love and adore, it's been made even better. You are EPIC.

  • @Janna0Jay Thanks, hon! At the moment, I'm kind of hooked on these two myself :)

  • There was a time when all men considered each other brothers. When you could count on someone to have your back, or do the right thing; You lived morally and you practiced honor. You gave everyone respect and you got respect from everyone because everyone knows that that is how the world should be. And life was an adventure worth living for just in itself.

  • Nice video. =) And bonus points for using my favorite passage from the books!

  • Thank you!!!

  • There is...kind of. They mixed it in to the story of the Mazarin diamond, but it's a fucked up patchworked episode, Holmes does actually appear only once for a few seconds in the end because Jeremy Brett has been terribly sick that time, the case of the diamond was solved by his brother Mycroft while Watson was occupied with 'The Three Garridebs' and Holmes had to go abroad for another case that he was involved with. Granada connected it because they had to find a bridging for Jeremy's disease.

  • Beautiful. I just can't help but smile while watching this. It's sad that the Granada Television did not have a TV adaptation of 'The Three Garridebs'.

  • Normaly, I hate photos with music... and I was at the point to turn off this vid...but it captured my attention till the very end. there were not simple screenshots, but the real photographs! Great captures of great moments! Awesome work! Thanks for sharing! Marvelous peace.

  • I love the stills! Sometimes photos can capture those fleeting candid moments of genuine emotion that nothing ever can, and seeing these pics of the lovely duo is precious!

  • Very, very nice! Really liked this film, love these characters as portrayed by these two. Can't wait for the sequal!
