The prove of Jesus's existence is through accounts and writings of him. If this isn't enough, then u would have to reject the existence any other historical figure such as Julius Cease, Plato, or whoever because Yeshua had the most accounts for. And about the book of Mormon...... Since its a fairy tale, YOU WILL NEVER FIND ARCHEOLOGICAL PROOF!!!! guaranteed

Thank u sir for this video. U just proved to me why I shouldn't believe in Christianity. Instead of making a point for your Mormon cult, you've just exploded on Christianity.

@TheBackyardProfessor I was kind of harsh on my last comment. I actually agree, these Christians are being unfair. They tell you that lack of evidence for the Israelite's in Egypt doesn't disprove the bible. If you want to prove your religion you need something other than ancient writings or archeology. It just amuses me when apologists of multiple religions see the hypocrisy in each other but not in themselves.
I do, however, think a evidence based view of history goes against your religion.

"Archeology is not against Mormonism"
I suppose I'm going to have dismiss the rest of what your talking about...

But if we're to reflect and ponder, as many scriptural passages advise us to do, shall we do it well or poorly? The answer is obvious. Just as temples should be built with the finest materials and craftsmanship, just as the Lord's tenth shouldn't be the runt of the litter but the best, our thinking about divine things should be the most informed, sincere, honest and rigorous we can offer.

@MrMerkOfficialPage "The bible wasnt compiled by god."
are you saying the Bible isn't God's word?
An informative video as always, Prof. Shirts. I just wish you'd name your anti-Mormon attackers and distinguish them from those who reasonably question the claims of the Book of Mormon. For those interested, the "Pierced Messiah" text is found at 4Q285. The Wise, Abegg & Cook translation of the Scrolls notes that Eisenmann "has publicly recanted" his "'dying messiah' interpretation" (368). The text as translated in this book reads as if the messianic figure is the killer. What are your thoughts?

I don't have specific names, just that everytime I present some evidence for the Book of Mormon, I inevitably have a few who bring up this argument. THEY, of course, know who they are. I have also had some LDS folks ask me about this argument and what can be done about it. I told em I would make some videos. It's for general audiences who find this question being asked of them.

I think Eisenman demonstrated what a *real* scholar does, changes his mind when the evidence shows something other than he originally thought. I respect Eisenman all the more. Mind you I don't agree with everything he writes, but he has the mark of a genuine scholar. And I agree that he should disown his early translation, it simply does not hold up on closer investigation.

Your video's have been wonderful! thank you for these. Your correct about archeology does not prove anything. About the pierced messiah, the only problem I have is jewish scholars will say the dead sea scrolls says the messiah killed somone and christian scholars will say no it says peirced messiah. I think archeology can be subjective. us mormons even like to believe what we want to. But I totally know what your saying is true. We just look for ways to show evidence for our own belief's.

The thing tha astonishes me is that archaeology was *never* used for the first 2,000 years of Christianity's existence for having faith in Jesus Christ. WHY does it HAVE to be so now? It makes no sense to me whatsoever.
