Your life's a Dimestore novel

This town is full of guys like you
And you're looking for someone
To take the place of her

You must be reading my mail
You're bitter 'cause he left you
That's why you're drinkin' in this bar
Well only suckers fall in love with perfect strangers

It always takes one to know one stranger
Maybe we're just wiser now
And been around the block so many times
That we don't notice

That we're all just perfect strangers
As long as we ignore
That we all begin as strangers
Just before we find
We really aren't strangers anymore

  • He's 30 here! Wow, at 58 I look younger than him and I smoked for 38 yrs before I quit 9 years ago almost.

  • One my favourite live concert experiences was 5th May 1978 Tom Waits band at Mayne Hall, University of Queensland, Brisbane. We had front row tickets, and when the curtain went up there was Tom in a comfy 40's armchair with ashtray stand and drink at hand, just a couple of metres away on a stage just a foot or so higher than the floor - low lighting, and with his superb band blurred behind a scrim. We were at home with Tom, and with a quality and dynamic of performance that was heart shaking.

  • lol did I hear that right? "sell you a rats asshole for a wedding ring"? ROFL Tom is the greatest. About time they put him in the rock and roll hall of fame. No one has a way with words quite like him. Even in his acceptance speech I got a kick out of how he said music is really just a very interesting thing to be doing with the air :)

  • Mijn hobby is kopieëren

  • he was just thirty years old. What an old soul he is. What a treasure he is. That's some skat/rap he follows up Talk To Strangers with - goooooooooooooooooo man! Love that horn and love that hat!

  • Classic Tom, Wonderful :)
