And yes, it is recorded that Abram slept with his slave Hagar in order to have children. However, the Bible itself is silent on the morality of these issues. Nowhere does it say that Abram was in the right for doing such a thing. In fact, we are told that Abram's illegitimate son, Ishmael, becomes a "wild donkey of a man," who lives in hostility with those around him. This seems to suggest that Abram's actions were wrong, as they led to the birth of a hateful and hostile people.
God can't be altogether just and holy without hating anything that is unholy. All sin deserves death. The ancient law prescribes capital punishment for a certain number of sins. That list of sins, however, is a drastic reduction from the number sins that deserve death. All sins deserve death
This "ancient practice" you mention seems to refer to the provision in the law that says that a woman, when widowed, should marry her deceased husband's brother. This is not simply sleeping with them.
Maybe you need one of god telling men they can stone their wives if they are not a virgin on the honeymoon. Or the ancient practice of a wife sleeping with a brother, or husband with a slave, to continue the blood line.
