For 3 decades I've been trying to convince people that this movie exists and so many little things in it proved to be prophetic.
Many people don't realize how disliked Jimmy Carter was, even when he was still in office... as displayed by the opening of this movie as well as the slams of him in the movie Used Cars.
I'm sure ToMegaTherion718 is correct. This was not original theatrical release ending.
One clue is the fact that the same footage that opened movie is used for closing credits. I was (and still am) huge Beach Boys fan and sure don't remember "It's A Beautiful Day" being used again at end of original picture.
Most eBay theater posters have "1998" added to the "Americathon" title, making me wonder if there was a re-release or if what I saw in Tulsa in '79 was early, limited run before editing.
This is not the way I remember this movie ending. I thought Chief Dan George became the owner of the country and America became property of the Native Americans. Or was that another movie?
check your local library. Ohio state Univ has the VHS see if your library has Interlibrary loan

Thank you DuckyGreen! I could not find this film anywhere, and it ends exactly how I remember it. Weird that it's not on Netflix or Blockbuster.
Such a fun film made by someone who really wanted to be Mel Brooks.
