An explosion has reportedly been heard and plumes of white smoke seen at an earthquake-hit nuclear plant in Japan - amid fears a meltdown is underway.
The walls and roof at Fukushima Number 1 nuclear power plant have been destroyed in the blast according to reports.
Radioactivity in the control room there is 1,000 times the normal level - and eight times the normal level in the area immediately outside the site.
Residents of the region have been urged to stay indoors, after Japan's Nuclear Safety Commission said the plant may be experiencing meltdown.
It is one of two nuclear power stations in Fukushima, which is 150 miles (240km) north of capital Tokyo, where emergencies had been declared due to cooling problems.
