On Nov. 7th, Focus on the Family brought its absurd "ex-gay" roadshow Love Won Out to Birmingham Alabama. This is a conference that tries to help people "pray away the gay". (Cue uproarious laughter) Truth Wins Out joined several local groups in protest. More than 50 people greeted conference attendees as they entered the church parking lot.
Truth Wins Out joined The Alliance for GLBT Equality at UAB, Covenant Community Church, Equality Alabama Birmingham, Central Alabama Pride and PFLAG. Special thanks to Bob Palmatier, Joe Openshaw and Rev. J.R. Finney (and many others) for a powerful action against the intolerance and bigotry of Focus on the Family
"God already loves gays." That man who said that is one of the few Christian preachers I've ever heard who actually has a clue as to what he's talking about.
As an Alabamian, I find it odd that so many people came to this event, whether to protest it or to listen to the speakers talk about their absurd points of view.
"We want to help parents better love their gay children." My quote isn't exact. But that was the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Better love? What's that even mean?

Loving and compassionate? That's like putting lumbar support in the electric chair.

They can still be loving and compassionate as they deny immigration status to gay partners and deport them...?

I'm very dissapointed at the repotage - it seems to be very devoid of fact - both sides say they have scientific evidence to back them up" is a bunk statement - what evidence? Is is respected in the scientific community? I think they will find that the organizers of the event had cherry-picked or fabricated their science.

The line of reasoning of this church is very flawed. Just because something is not genetic does not mean it can be changed or cured. Let alone by prayer.
At this time, no one has found a left-handedness gene. Yet I meet hardly any Christians who doubt this preference. I have never had an offer to pray that away.

I loved cbs42's little icon for "Homosexuality Debate". The position of the hands is mighty suggestive.
Also, that same channel must be the only news agency in the country that actually takes Love Won Out seriously. Giving those psychopaths the first AND last word...give me a break. It's disgusting.
