  • it looks like a French flag

  • @knight7fox2 It IS a French flag! French was the Prom's theme that year and, if you watch to the end, you will see that four Union flags are revealed.

  • Who is the conductor? It is a fine performance.

  • @michaels7 Sir John Pritchard. His final UK performance - he died a few weeks later in San Francisco.

  • @IrlamGreen I agree , she has the edge over the others!

  • Ms. Walker is indeed a delight, however I still feel that Ms. Constance Shacklock was still the best Last Nighter!

  • I don't think any of the soloists have beaten Miss Walker's dress for effect yet. A fitting frock for a superb song.

  • Me too - thank you SO much for posting this brilliant version from '89!! Mrs Sarah Walker ist simply great: her powerful voice, her charisma ... - and then that last verse, where she swung up into the heights of mezzo-soprano ... unbelievable! Still today I get goose pimples! :-0

I'm not sure if my video tape from '89 is still alive, but I'm been glad to find this precious performance of Mrs Sarah Walker here on youtube! Thank you again for sharing it!!

  • So subtle and yet so effective.

  • Great to see this again, I actually saw her reprise this at the Snape Proms a year later, in the smaller concert hall with great acoustics, she sounded wonderful, not that she had a small voice or anything!
