Priory Park Reigate history underground

The foundations of the original stable blocks and outbuildings at Reigate Priory Park were uncovered by archaeologists in April 2007. This short video features comments from local historians.

The area dates back over 750 years :

the Augustinian Priory, 3 Howards and their home; 2 Lord Mayors of London, a Lord Chancellor and 3 Earls, Lady Henry Somerset, tenants and visitors including Sir Winston Churchill, and the Beattys - the Admiral, the Millionairess and the Derby winner. It is now a school, a museum and a public park. These historic remains of the stables are now grassed over with a circular metal /glass cafe and a childrens play park. The ancient lake was emptied at the same time.
