Jesus. He is a human being, he gets tired. He's a genius and he could have said so many other things than "rude," but he didn't. This video just proves how real of a person he is. He's a sweet guy and I miss him!

I feel almost like honored by now after seeing over 100 youtube videos of Andy to actually see the real andy kaufman caught off gaurd!

Kinda crazy how he mentions that one of the worst shows/audiences was during a benefit with doctors at the hospital in which he would eventually die

Daxflames father?

I wish I could have gone to Pips! and had an ice cream! What a sweetheart...makes me want to get an "I love grandma" t-shirt. Thanks so much for posting this!

"at the end when i said they were a wonderful audience, eehhhh, they were not a wonderful audience"
c'mon andy, get mad! gosh.

The only way you could get Andy Kaufman naturally on camera is if he didn't know. Like a nature channel documentary.
-
I don't believe he's beimg totally serious because he planned for the audience reactions and here he's acting like it bothered him a lot. He always knew what he was doing

@bassbait. "Comedy is based off of self hatred"? That is the stupidest statement I've heard in quite a while, based upon some vague myth that people often repeat to one another. It's incorrect. It's stupid. Comedians are people, as varied in their motives and character as ...people.

The Kaufman family is closely related to the Novoselic family. No joke.
-
Did he say, "I love you, too. I really appreciate it," to someone in the audience? I love him so much.

He never acted completely "normal" around people...im sure around his family and friends sure, but other than that, he always put up some kind of wall so people couldnt get a grasp on him.
I'm surprised how polite he is. Most comedians are simply jerks, like they have to degrade everybody in order to make themselves look cooler or funnier. It's like in Metalocalypse when Pickles learns in order to make the audience laugh he has to think of them as an enemy, and then he just starts sniping random people in the audience...
Nice people hardly ever make it as a comedian, and it's even funnier when you consider that Andy didn't consider himself a comedian.

@Bassbait Andy was a real sweet guy, he was always nice to Seth, the filmaker, when most others werent.

@Joeyland But it's just weird to me that such a nice guy could be a comedian, because comedy is based off of self-hatred and outward hatred. Hardly ever do comedians intend to make people feel better. Emo Phillips is definitely a comedian that I would think is a nice guy, but his style of comedy is very different from other people. The most eccentric comedians are always the most respectable.

@Bassbait your not wrong about Emo, hes a great guy, but very wierd, Judy Tenuta, is also very nice, but for all the malcontents, there r many nice if not stable individuals in comedy. of the famous, Drew Carey, Ray Romano, Adam Sandler, come to mind. Among the lesser known, but generally funnier, Rocky Laporte, Dwayne Kennedy, John Caponera, among others (not all from Chicago either)
But some of the most tortured and the most unstable, were also amoung the best, Bill Hicks, and Sam Kennison r 2

Hard to see Andy caught off guard and looking so tired and.... vulnerable, after seeing videos of him being... what everyone assumes is him. He may have had a bizarre sense of humor, but he did what worked for him. He seems like an extremely sweet guy despite the characters he played. He seems like the kind of guy i'd want to get to know as a good friend. And seeing him like this... It hits you how young he really was.
