This is a musical intelligence test. Especially if you don't know music. It's real test of whether you can hear that one note is longer than the next. If you would like to see the notes written out, here is a pdf file of this exercise: http://www.patternpiano.com/counting_exercise_6_28_08.pdf
I have the same group of rhythms three times, but the second and third time they are off the beat. I could have conceivablely kept moving the pattern back by a sixteenth note to create even more variations -- but I think you get the idea and I've found that shorter exercises are easier to digest.
Listen in particular for the way the rhythms sound funkier when they fall a sixteenth behind the beat. Then when they fall an eighth behind the beat they are slighlty less funky, but not as square as the first time through.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this one.

Very cool! Love how the delay and anticipation attacks (before and after the beat) stand out.
