In this excercise we will learn kiSwahili the most fun way! That is by singing a famous kiSwahili song by Dr. Fadhili William and Malaika Boys. The song was highly publicized by Miriam Makeba, Harry Belafonte and Boney M. There are possibly 15 different versions. By the time this clip is over you will gain more confidence in the fact that you can speak kiSwahili. Other kiSwahili matter can also be found on my website www.kulmansam.com

  • This song has probably been the reason that a lot of people have tried to learn Swahili. I think the first person I heard singing it was Harry Belafonte. My favorite, however, is Angelique Kidjo. I think she has picked up the torch that Miriam Makeba dropped.

This is an excellant choice of teaching materials.

  • @leftysergeant :-) Thanks, now I have to find out about Angelique Kidjo! Miriam Makeba was a Living Legend. She died the way she wanted! On stage singing!

  • Malaika in Arabic means....;Angels....

  • @boogie89man :-) it sure does. And Sawahil in Arabic means coastal people!

  • Very wonderful song. We used to sing this song in a band practice when I was studying in Addis Ababa. It reminds me of my wonderful time there in the band. A really timeless song. Thank you for putting the lyrics and translation too....I really enjoyed it.

  • @ChelseafcTube :) glad it brings good memories

  • Song is great I dont know Swahili but i loved it :) Greetings from Italy to all Swahili speaking especially Kenyans

  • @Anna94Esdr ... Bob Marley said it best "When one door is closed, many more is open".. learn from past and embrace the future.. there is someone for every one, they may be right at your door, but you may not be thinking that they are the ones... If I was in your shoes (knowing what I know now), I would read a few books such as (5 love languages, men are from mars and women are from venus and magic of thinking big)

  • @kulmansam believe it or not - I already catch myself singing :) the little I know about Swahili. Ha ha ha! I dance to it in my bedroom! Catchy little song.

  • @sabreena1khalick : It is actually very easy, and you will catch your self singing it at midnight, middle of the day and times you least expect to!

  • @kulmansam I stumbled on this link by mistake but recognised the name Malaika - i had a friend who had this name. I have saved this song on my playlist - shall certainly would like to learn this song by heart.
