A few simple changes can make the holidays easier for families of people with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. Kristen Martin-Cook of the Alzheimer's Disease Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas suggests:

-- Create small, short, quiet celebrations
-- Give practical gifts, such as services or days out
-- Give the caregiver a respite
