  • you all talk about catching them on bombers and drys. im from nz and always beleaved and foundthe sit hard on the bottom. never knowen anyone here to use these ways. are we all catching the same fish ?? and id always been told the stop feeding wonse there in the river. help me out guys im a little confused

  • great 2hear from downunder - Atlantic salmon stop feeding at sea and can fast up to 12 months in freshwater before spawning. Spinning, worm, prawn or fly all work here on this side of the Atlantic - 4Canada check out jsmallwood2007!

  • Always great to see diferent technique for salmon fishing...here we fly fish all top water even putting a hitch on the head of the fly(side of the head towards you hook pointed down stream)and casting downriver on a 45 degree angle, this makes the fly skim the surface making a V ,they love it and will hit it before the same pattern fished below the surface as done other places...large dry flys are also quite effective the orange bug or bomber being the local favorite dry fly.

  • you guys would be so much at home here - the orange bug's a new 1 on me. We use shrimp/prawn - depending on who's dressing it, how it's fished (and even cooked!) and what colour it is can have anglers at odds with each other. The "condom" (french meps) is another favourite for heavy water and again colour and gold or silver spinner are subject to hot debate. What blows us away is how aware salmon are of their surroundings - encroach and they're gone. thanks for the great posts! salmo

  • jsmallwood2007 - neat to see a different way of fishing them.fly fishing the only legal way to fish salmon rivers here.they will however attack a lure in areas you can fish with lure, estuaries salt water and lakes and ponds on river systems (you can use spinning gear for trout in ponds and lakes).the fav way here is wet fly with a hitch tied to one side of the fly head ,this makes it skim the surface making a v,they love it, far more effective than just letting the fly swing below the surface.

  • @hotansexy71 Kiora bro! We have the pacific King/chinook/spring salmon. We call them quinnut after a US river where we got them from. They don't come up for drys but will take streamers. I have caught them on big weighted nymphs but I think that was just me putting the fly in the right spot with their mouths open at the time.

  • @fishinNS possibly in freshwater this argument has merit. At sea though salmon are voracious predators with quick digestion of prey. Relative to their size they can also consume large or small prey such as mackerel or tiny crabs

  • great vid

  • great video. it's nice to see how the salmon hold in fast water. they like to find spots where they can swim like they did at sea as they sit in the run. salmon fishing is the sport fit for a king

  • gold works awsome here as well ,use gold lures quite often at the river mouth where its legal..was in a debate on getreeled about whether colour matters busted a gut laughing at the people who said it did't ,obviously they haven't salmon fished lol...next one you catch watch their eye, they even look at you its amazing ,i bet when they jump they are actualy sizing up the obstacles in front of them...maybe im giving them to much credit but it sure seems that way lol

  • The orange bug or bomber drasticly changed the face of salmon fishing here in the last 10 years as anyone can catch fish on it technique is not critical as long as its floating along something will hit it,alot more fishermen got involved in the sport because of how much easier it made catching salmon presentation was no longer so critical(good technique with the bomber proves deadly lol)...most diehards however avoid useing it till last resort perfering the more challenging wet fly presentation
