Shot on July 23, 2011 at the Stillwell Avenue-Coney Island subway station. Here we have a rare catch on the New York City subway. A train comprised of Kawasaki R68A subway cars running on the Q line (Brighton/Broadway.) Until 2010, R68/68A models were commonplace, however with the service changes of 2010, the Q was dominated by R160 tech cars. Here we see the consist leaving Coney Island on its way to Manhattan via the Brighton Beach line.

  • @bebo2good1 there was brief time after 9/11 when the Q used R46s since it was replacing the R in Queens, but then it swapped cars with the R32s on the E because Brighton residents complained that they were causing too much noise and rumbling.

  • @thesubwaynut Since when in 2001 they had R46s down there? It was a mix of R40s and R68s with the (D) (Q) there.

  • @bebo2good1 nearby residents complaining about noise vibrations and rumbling in the 1970s and 2001

  • @thesubwaynut Why is it banned?

  • @bebo2good1 R46s = banned from the Brighton Line. R68/68As = too fat for the Brighton Line.

  • To me, the r68a on the Q isn't rare as I've seen it tons of times in the last 10 yrs+. Regardless if there hasn't been any on the line lateley.

Rare would be like seeing an r46 on that line.

Of course great vid. I do hope to see a 68 soon on the Q again..
