They say one can't take more than 3 or 400 shoots using a single battery with a Nikon D200. Well, I can't go up to 4.000 and beyond :-)

  • What, you can't afford a couple of extra batteries?

  • of course! I'm talking about your last miliamperes of your last extra batery

  • P.E.: uncompressed RAW+FINE will give you about 20 Mb files and 300 shoots per charge, but if you shift quality down to SMALL BASIC, it will write 300 kb files and 4000+ shoots per charge (don't belive me, try it!!). It could be usefull when you are in need of more shoots with your last miliamperes and you can sacrifice some of the image quality.

  • I thing it´s a software error... but tell us: Fake or real?

  • Hi. knpan: it doesn't matter. Keksstar: this is absolutely real, not a software error :-)

The key to save power is not AF, neither LCD screen nor VR. The real key is the quality of the image and consecuent amount of data writen to the CF

  • ok thanks! When I'll get the d200 I'll remember to buy a battery grip and another battery.

  • No, It took amazing RAW files!

It's the fact that if you shoot RAW your battery life gets cut in half - or more! It's all the time the Pipeline has to be active to save the data to storage and all the associated functions.

  • You mean the d200 is not taking good RAW pictures ?

  • This explains why FILM ROCKS.

  • if u spend more than a thousand on this brick, make sure it has a few batteries and a grip if you're shooting all day. Turning off the LCD is useful, if you don't want to see any options. Unless you're extremely confident, use the LCD and an extra battery or two (aka battery grip).

  • Good

  • It's not hard at all to do this.

I turn everything off... completely off. Even AF.

When I do so I've managed 4100+ shots at room temp.

Not hard to do... but I'm a raw shooter... I hate the D200 for it, but that's the only thing I don't like.

    Can't wait for the D300.

    - AL!

  • When I got my D200 I was amazed that after 300ish shots, the battery was nearly dead. I turned off the image review the first week I had it, and started consistently getting 700-800 shots per charge. I also spend more time shooting and less, looking at the LCD. If I need to make sure I got the shot or nailed the exposure, it isn't that hard to tap the play button. I have two batteries and never need more. It doesn't get the battery life of a d50 or d70 but it's fine with me.

  • ermm..

    the D200 Takes ENEL3e ..

  • loooool

I have 4 batteries and a battery grip and a car charger and a cable to the cam for extra long exposure (2 houers and more)

    so I'm well battried ;)
