1400 arrested in Malaysia rally

Police in Malaysia have arrested more than 1,400 anti-government protesters after thousands of people marched on the capital Kuala Lumpur.




Officers fired repeated rounds of tear gas to break-up the crowds who had evaded city-wide roadblocks to take part in the rally.




At least a dozen people were hurt including opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who fell over during a tear gas attack.

as an australian in KL yesterday i couldn't believe the response to such a peaceful demonstration.. these were young people, smiling friends, couples holding hands while they walked.

malaysians are the warmest, most genuine and respectful people i have encountered. you deserve a government based in the same values of equality and freedom which you already live by. the whole world is behind you guys.

It's not like the crowd threw bricks, looted shops, burnt cars or anything like that.

The police did not act by retaliation or self defense, they acted purposely on offense. Now that is just wrong and obviously politically motivated.
