Nobody could seem to find the strength to look up from the floor. Everyone in the small group seemed to be rooted to the floor, thoughts burning through their minds. But nobody was surprised when Demi was the first one to storm off with Nick following her shortly after.
Demi stepped out into the cold night air, "Oh my god! How could I be so stupid!" She yelled once she had stepped onto the misty grass.
"You're not stupid." Nick barely muttered. His eyes tracing Demi's path across the grass.
"How could I ever believe I could compare to HER!" Demi said screaming at a stunned Nick, "And drugs?! Really?! You told me you didn't want me to hang out with Aaron because he smoked once every now and then. AND YOU DID DRUGS AND GOT FXCKING ARRESTED FOR IT!"
"It was my past Demi! It was before I even knew you! I was sixteen and I wanted to experience what freedom was like...I made a mistake and trust me I paid for it. And I didn't do it often three times! THAT'S IT!"
Demi felt the tears coming on. She had known Nick for almost a year and had loved him since she first met him. Yet, here she was discovering a whole other side to him, one he had never been so gracious to fill her in on and here she was feeling like an idiot because some stupid drunk slut knows her boyfriend better than she does.
"That's not the point, Nick! The point is that you never told me! You lied to me over and over again.... Did you sleep with her?" Demi said her eyes giving into the heaviness of the tears as they tumbled down her face. "Did you?!" She demanded.
"What?" Nick asked Demi confused as to where she got that assumption from.
"That night at the lake! The one Jenna was talking about!" Demi screeched at Nick, "Did you sleep with her?" Demi said referring to Miley but not daring to say her name. It would hurt too much.
"No!" Nick exclaimed staring at Demi with his dark chocolate eyes.
"You did." She whispered back at Nick as she stared hard at him, studying his every move. Demi did her best to contain the loud sob that was coming on but she felt like somebody had just stabbed her in the stomach.
"No." He whispered less convincingly than the first time, "It didn't get that far. Demi you were a freshman. I didn't know you, I wasn't dating you!"
"It doesn't matter. There has always been this-this unspoken bond between the two of you and I always tried to push it away. I tried to pretend that she wasn't the one you were thinking about when you were with me. That she wasn't the one you pictured next to you when we hung out. But I was only lying to myself. You're in love with her! And if that isn't enough you slept with her!" Demi argued with Nick unable to keep her voice steady.
Nick grabbed Demi's shoulders forcing her to look him in the eyes, "That was a YEAR AGO! I love her but as a best friend. She has been there for me through EVERYTHING, I've known her since I was five. Demi YOU'RE my girlfriend. Not her."
"But she'll always get the best of you." She whispered resting her hand on his cheek, "She's everything you are and everything you aren't. I wish it was me but it's not." She said letting the tears fall on their own.
Nick didn't know what else to say, he could feel Demi slipping through his fingers like sand through water. He was losing her and he wasn't ready to. "Don't go." He said as he watched her start to walk away.
"I'll call you tomorrow." She said quietly before walking towards the large house; the tears never ending from her gorgeous brown eyes.
