  • 10,000 hours of practice and you'll play as good as Tony Rice? I think not. If you don't have it in your psyche no amount of muscle memory gained thru 10,000 hours of practice will put it there. This is not a democracy. Not everyone is entitled to be a musical genius. The difference between you and him is not the number of hours he practiced vs. the number you practiced. When you encounter a genius be humbled and don't delude yourself into thinking it's a matter of hours "practiced".

  • Clapton is a klutz by comparison.

  • @a46474647 - I rarely respond to stuff but you don't get the joke - a) TR did not spend 10000 hours learning to play like someone else; b) no one spends 10000 hours on anything uinless there is passion; c) there are hundreds++ of very good, gifted guitarists and musicians - each with their own style - not just one good one and the rest stink...

Tony Rice is certainly an excellent guitarist - no question....but there are lots of muses in the universe....

  • Tony said in one of his instructional videos that he had been fascinated with John Coltrane since the 60's. Now I understand why. I sure hope Trane can hear this, wherever he is out there. He would be proud, and also amazed. This is just too cool!

  • DAMN

  • I must have watched this 70 times.

  • I swear this guy is just perfection.

  • Too bad we can't hear Tony play this with Coltrane! Hahaha!

  • David Greer once said he spend his formative years learning to play like Tony. David is an incredible player but I have never heard the same phrasing, conviction and timbre in anything he's done. There is only one T-Bone.

  • @a46474647 Anyone has the ability to become as good of a musician as Tony Rice if they put the effort in and practice. You will not be able to play like Tony RIce however, you will only be able to play like yourself.

  • @a46474647 I do beleive that there are God-gifted musicinas that are naturals at music, but I also think much of what Tony does can be learned through practice.
