  • Dear man2k6,

I totally agree with you. In south Indian system called carnatic music, if you talk about proper microphones, placements or proper sound check for all the artistes for the best output it is a big sin. Most of the artistes are egocentric and in-secured to see co-artistes being attended to and given proper sounding! Many great performances of yesteryears by stalwarts have gone unheard and unnoticed only due to these reasons. It is a curse!

  • Dear Suresh Master, You have the part of UKS for this please ?

  • @Shishyandipu, Yes But One cannot upload any one else's recording without permission!

  • Mr; Suresh. This is what i want to know... i want to play this..

  • One mike needs to be placed high over the mouth of the ghatam to pick the full range of the bass. Sound folk often let down the artists. One way is to place the stand behind him and bring the boom arm over the shoulder of the player in front of his face allowing full movement and recording. when placed in front should be higher and over hanging, mike pointing down. As it is now, bass is distorted even with bass gain set high and good mike.

  • @ghatamsuresh I adore both ghatam and udu and for that matter most all percussion instruments. And to go one step further, all musical instruments from all cultures with the possible exception of Scottish bagpipes.

  • Yes! True. I always adore the Udu drums. I have many friends and fans playing this instrument. Of course the playing technique differs in many ways!

  • @angelartfly1 Udu is a similar drum from Africa, Nigeria if I recall correctly.

  • This is absolutely adorable.

I would like to travel to India and stay there until I have learned this :o)
