The Merlin (Bird of prey) HC3 is operated by No 28 (AC) Squadron at RAF Benson and is the first of a new generation of advanced, medium support helicopters for the RAF. It is an all weather, day and night, multi-role helicopter used in both tactical and strategic operational roles. The aircraft carries an impressive defensive-aids suite, which includes a Radar and Laser Warning Receiver, Missile Approach Warners and Directional Infrared Countermeasures equipment, all integrated with an automatic chaff and flare dispensing system. This is one of the most comprehensive defensive aids suites fitted to any helicopter in the world.

  • @MerlinGroundCrew Hahaha!! Cheers. That just made me snot my morning cuppa out of my nose :D

  • @Solidboat123 yeah your right, hardly anybody knows about the Air Arm, except me I already knew :D they're based usually at RNAS Yeovilton, I want the Sea Harriers to come back into Airshows in the UK.

  • @Rafboy03 Yes, I know. But the Sea Harriers (and Sea Kings and Lynx) were Fleet Air Arm. A lot of people don't even seem to realise that there is a Fleet Air Arm, they just assume that everything is RAF

  • @Solidboat123 The RAF did do some sorties in The Falklands War, With Chinook and Vulcan support.

  • just read the other comments on this if you don't believe me!
