An incomplete RegionMap is accessible via GameShark in the playable SaGa Frontier demo. No lost regions, alas, but a few aesthetic differences.

The demo's REGION.OUT file contains unused TIM data presumably planned for Baccarat, since it includes a bunny girl; for some Square changed their minds and replaced her with 'Welcome to Baccara'. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s168/VanishedOne/SaGa_Frontier_unused/sgf_...

I didn't bother with audio, but it's worth noting that the demo RegionMap uses the music from the inter-region ship travel scenes, not the RegionMap theme from the final game.

  • interesting, what gameshark code you used to enable all region map? could we use the code from japanese final version?

  • @eriol33 According to my notes, in the demo it's 8001008C 01FD to get the RegionMap and 8001037E set to 00000000 to make all regions available. (That bit would need to be converted to two Gameshark codes; I just did it manually in the CEP memory editor.) If I remember rightly, these are basically equivalent to the final Japanese version's codes, but offset differently from the start of memory.

thank you very much, I will try it sometime. Just wondering though, are the regions accessible in this demo version? (that's what I actually wanted to try)

  • @eriol33 I'm afraid not; map files corresponding to maps not used in the demo are all dummies with no real data content.

  • Glad to see some hack work has been done on SaGa Frontier demo, although limited. I'd assume if you tried to access the regions, you cannot. I do wonder if the RB-3 text is the same in the Japanese Final...

Curious, what is the dates on the Demo files, compared to the final?

  • Mostly early-to-mid 1997.
