The choreography is a reconstruction--from film and personal memory--of the original choreography done by Sir Frederick Ashton back in the early sixties.

I also believe Dame Margot Fonteyn was Sir Fredrick Ashton's first Sylvia and her partner was Michael Somes. It's fascinating and enchanting to watch a new-millenium ballerina like Darcey Bussell essay choreography that was tailor-made for Fonteyn.

Yes indeed. Good observation, and true. I've seen parts of that old film, and Dame Margot--a much smaller creature--was zipping around in her precise and energetic way. Darcey is moving a much larger frame through the same paces, and doing it admirably, albeit with markedly individual (and characteristic) attitudes and attacks. It makes for quite a fascinating study, you are absolutely right.
