@AJS1111 I think you should familiarize yourself better with the L-1011's history before saying anything regarding safety.
The L-1011 used wires through the aircraft that were wrapped in rubber that melted at a far lower temperature than other aircraft rubbers. This was a major reason for a decrease in popularity and its eventual failure.
Read up on TWA flight 843, Jordanian Airlines' crash, and even Suadi Arabian 162, all due to aircraft design.

@AJS1111 again, wow! very, very cool. Thanks for filming this.

@milehighhostie did L1011s use start carts? I thought those were for 707s and DC-8s?

Wow! Love it. "The little engine that could"....I'm guessing it was so hard to start because it was sitting idle in the desert for a long time, eh?

Gave me Chills use to work on one of them for about 10 years great AC miss it. And I miss the smell too lolol

@AJS1111 Still isn't the same. And even if it was you cant smell it.

@AJS1111 Well if you're talking about the Delta DFW incident, there really wasn't enough information about Microbursts yet but I get what you're saying about the safety record. Great airplane-took me across the Atlantic, twice.

@borderking59 Believe it or not we still have 5 of these L1011-500's flying here in the UK used by our Air Force as Air refuelling tankers. My favourite plane ever!

You would have trouble keeping me on a plane when the #1 is smokin like a camp fire. Think I would just drive home.

@SteveWard3928 Funny thing is, even with all the smoke these engines emit when starting, the aircraft served it's time with a perfect safety record. Yes I did say perfect!! There was never an L-1011 accident resulting from any structural or mechanical failure of any kind ever. There were a few L-1011 accidents that were the result of flying into a microburst and poor crew performance. Aside from that, your drive home would actually be much more dangerous!!

I'm curious...if the APU was not supplying enough air to start the engine, why didn't you use an external air start? Looked like that start must have been very hard on the engine. I used to work on Air Canada L1011's on the ramp in YVR in the late 80's early 90's. Doesn't seem all that long ago, but I guess I'm getting old! Really loved those beauties...so glad at least one was saved from the scrappers torch. Well done guys!

@milehighhostie Believe it or not, there were no air start carts available. They just don't have much support equipment in Roswell, as there is usually not a need to have it, as most of these aircraft are intended to never fly again. In fact, there almost wasn't enough fuel to get this aircraft where it needed to go either.
