This is a project for "The Art of Lost words"
http://www.textgallery.info

MY website is:
http://www.markandrewwebber.com

I chose the Word Dehisce from a list of Lost words.

The Definition for that word is:
(biology) release of material by splitting open of an organ or tissue; the natural bursting open at maturity of a fruit or other reproductive body to release seeds or spores or the bursting open of a surgically closed wound

This Printed Linomation (Hand carved Animation using Linoleum prints), was done using 296 individual pieces of carved Linoleum which are 10cm squared each.

its made to a loop so it can go on forever! for youtube i decided to loop it three times to show the gist of the looping.

my friend Adam Dedman itscallingme.com created the sound for the Linomation

Tn Lawrence ( http://www.lawrence.co.uk/ ) Helped me out very much with this animation. and i am very grateful to them! they provided me with enough linoleum for 180 pieces!!!.. due to the nature of the project!!! They are the guys i buy a majority of my equipment from, very efficient service!

so other then the sound all was created by me "Mark Andrew Webber" took me around 500 hours.

  • I'm a much faster carver than I ever used to be, but I could never imagine doing this! I'm amazed! Now I want to do one! :)

  • @vpew cheers! you should! i hope to get around to starting a new one in the next year... lots of other things to do first.. but ideas have been on my mind for a few years now for another.... your a fellow artist then? have you tried animation much before?

  • that is really amazing. i just did one lino cut for this art assignment and it has tacken forever. this is very inspiring

  • you get used to it really, i've done so much carving now, its not so hard, i've got some good quality tools, which helps amazingly!.. cheers for the comment!

  • yeah, althoguh this is high school so its cheap lino thats really hard and cheap tools. its also good to see someone who has posted a video so in tune with his comments, youtube is usually so harsh on people but its good to see this. keep it up

  • yea the hard lino, can be heated up!. i used a fan heater and wore gloves when i was carving, also helped me as i have Arthritis, so it keeps the hands nice and warm. tools, well yea the cheap ones are not so good, but it was all i used for lots of work at the start, then i saved for a decent set of tools, and it was very much worth it!.... good luck with future works!

  • @dexter121uk Do you have any suggestions for this process? I know the first try isn't going to turn out exactly as I want, but I still want to try it.

  • @dexter121uk Yes. I am an art student in university studying Printmaking. I have always wanted to try this, and I think that's my goal for the semester is to create an animation (probably with not that many frames though!). I'm in between small plate etchings and woodcut, but who knows I might try both!

  • @dexter121uk I am a university student in printmaking. I mostly do silkscreening and meshing sculpture with printmaking, but I love making comics. I never really delved into animation, but want to. Any advice for someone who wants to make an animation from woodcuts/linocuts?

  • Unbelievable, well done!

  • this is so awesome :)

  • Woah, really beautiful.

I've been lino printing for the first time this week for a book project, and this is truly inspiring.

Although, my knuckles are aching just thinking about how long this must have taken to make!

  • Your art is beautiful!

  • Holy smokes. I never eve considered that something like this existed. Excellent job at creating a mesmerizing piece of truly unique handmade/digital artwork that will now last forever.
