Never Spank Your Child?

The British paper, The Telegraph, reported on January 3, 2010, that occasional proper spanking of children up to the age of eleven has positive results, angering children's right campaigners. What does the Bible say about proper child rearing and discipline?

I have always beleived in spanking my child. I was rarely spanked as a child and had little respect for my parents. I never spank to hurt, rather to get attention and teach my child to respect my decisions. I have a very well behaved child who respects me a lot, large impart to the decipline she has received.

Children don't fear the parent if the spankings are out of love. My children know that that I do and they are not afraid of me. My youngest is very stubborn and I tend to have to do it more than my oldest. The timeouts, taking things away, or punishments don't work for her, they are a joke. So the ones who tell me not to how do you propose disciplining her? I was spanked as a child and was pretty good in school and never was arrested.

I understood and accepted spanking (along with time outs, grounding, and confiscation) as a child. And now as a teenager, I'm known as a good and respectful person.

Children learn by our example. In kindergarten no child gets beaten and they usually respect their teachers much. I believe it is enough to just hinder your child from doing harmful things without spanking, and to not show the same bad behavior to them. At the same time I wouldn't call the police on a parent who spanks the child, if it doesn't happen out of aggression. I personally don't spank and my little ones develope fine.

I agree, I was spanked as a child, and as a parant who raised 3 kids I also spanked my children. Properly and only when needed. And not one of my children had more than a dozen spankings in their life. They listened when spoken to, because they knew the outcome if they didn't. Proper discipline is appropriate no matter wat the bible says. Not one of my siblings or any of my children did wrong in school. And have never spent a day in jail.
