Its ok CFLs contain the amount of mercury that would be on a tip of a pen. Also drop off sites include HomeDepot Lowes Menards Ace Walgreen ect. I am sure you have one of those near you. CFLs are the superior bulb and that is why they will be the only main option soon enough, stock up on CFL bulbs today save money and go green!

@musica21 i have heard of ppl getting sick from using CFLs. Maybe its true, maybe its not. But i wouldnt take any chances. u mite wana stock up on incandescents just in case

I don't know about your area, but where I live (California), you can't put CFLs in regular trash that goes to the landfill. You have to take them to a toxic waste recycling site, just like batteries, pesticide & herbicide containers, no-longer-functional electronic stuff (like dead computers), etc. Most metro areas have these sites. CFLs are not the only things that need to be kept out of landfills.

Question - I have read that these energy efficient bulbs contain mercury, and that the U.S. has not established a disposal system for them, therefore the toxic mercury will go into our landfills. Can you shed some "light" on this please? FYI, in Europe the companies that produce these had to establish a disposal system before they went on the market for this reason. I'm all for saving electricity, but...mercury in our landfills?
