Julian Beck, who plays Kane in this movie, was one very interesting man in real life! LOL Read the Wikipedia article on him. He got busted for several different crimes over the years, was in an open marriage (in which he and his wife shared a male lover), and had a tryst with another guy at one point. His type of acting and theater also matched well with his role in this....

all the bodies that were moved from the graves disturbed the spirits and they lingered around the house where carolanne was born. that is why they like her.

I think I've heard somewhere before was that the assumption was that she (as well as her mother and grandmother) was psychic to a certain extent which made her attractive to the spirits.
