  • I understand the idea of distribution as the elements being movable and combinable in different ways. However what I do not understand is if someone "wanted" to multiply the above problem why would they use the distributive method, or the foil method. Both seem unnecessary. If I wanted to multiply the given problem I would just simply multiply it as given (x+3)(x+5). Mucking around with the elements just adds an unnecessary step?
