Thérèse Schreinemachers-Wieske is the creative brains behind the hottest new trend to hit the Paris fashion world: "The Original DouwDouw" shower cap.

She has breathed new life into an item that is usually thought of as passé and unchic. With her unique touch that is always feminine and meticulous, she has created a dashing collection of water-repellent shower caps.

Her origins and upbringing have defined not only who Thérèse is, but also what she brings forth through her creations. She was born on July 22, 1969 on the Caribbean island of Curaçao. Coming from a large family where music always filled the house with joy, her father worked as a mechanical engineer at the Shell, and her mother is an artist. These varying backgrounds, together with her homeland, strongly determined and influenced Thérèse's character and personality.

She is quick to point out that the tranquil waters of the Caribbean ocean that used to lull her to sleep, as well as the colourful scenery that surrounded her as a child, are strong influences on her work. She draws inspiration from the simplicity of nature's beauty, and her love of a quite and peaceful life.

The concept for The Original DouwDouw shower cap has its roots in the 1970's. A shower cap that used to belong to her grandmother inspired Thérèse. Though these were purely utilitarian in nature, they still possessed a certain cheerful quality.

The name she chose for them is one close to her heart: DouwDouw, was the nickname she was given as a young girl due to her adventurous nature.

Additional inspiration for the collection came from her love of the English costumes of the 18th century.

A graduate of the Academy of Fashion in The Hague, Thérèse's love for fashion, and its intricate details, can be appreciated upon closer inspection. The shower cap is a practical and functional piece of fashion, meticulously finished with the finest satins and ribbons and whimsical and dainty accents, making each one a unique creation.

Thérèse wanted to compliment the collection with a matching fashionable leisure line of clothing and accessories. She has, therefore, specially designed this collection for the Paris Fashion Academy Trophy Award 2009.
Thérèse has always believed that clothes should be comfortable, trendy and flattering. This philosophy is clearly evident in her leisure pieces.
