  • I love Anne of Green Gables, BUT I<ve grown up & take issue with the romanticised story of Anne as a misrepresentation of the tragic history of the Barnardo homes & British Home children. Anne simply lucked out. Typically most used as free labour & not properly housed, fed, nor educated & kept ostracised from local children. A TERRIBLE Canadian TRAGEDY compounded by Canada's MP.JASON KENNY saying "the public has limited interest in official apologies for every tragic event in our past".

  • "the public has limited interest in official apologies for every tragic event in our past".

I'll agree with him on that. Are we supposed to apologize for every bad thing that ever happened in the history of our countries?

  • what good little actors!

  • @suelizjohnson Totally, something which Montgomery herself recognised. Anne's history before Green Gables was exactly like that - treated as free labour, orphan trash. I don't think anybody who reads the books - or even those who merely watched the '85 adaptation - believes that Anne's good luck was a common story for orphans in those days.

  • @1FZFE The only thing you need apologize for is that wig. What in the nappy hell is that thing? Did you piece it together from the garbage of a salon? It looks the fallout from a ginger's Brazilian wax job.

I pray her hair doesn't naturally look like that because drawing attention to it on stage is a fatal blow to a child's ego.

  • Hello .

  • This is the Harcourt book version isn't it? My sixth grade English class just finished reading this and we all fricking loved it! After reading it, we watched the 1985 movie and I didn't want to leave when the bell rang! Really is good.

  • i <3 annes history i love studying her life

  • cool props and well preapared... the same as we did as a school play... from the philippines

  • @suelizjohnson perhaps you should choose your platforms better. This is a video taken at a school play. Rather than bring your position here, to a bunch of children having fun at school, take it to the government.

When you choose the field for your battle, choose wisely.

  • I expected Anne to be in the 'Depths of dis pare'and not be angry that she wasn't wanted.

  • Yes, I do. "Home" people are still alive & yes they do deserve an apology for being abused. Australia & Britain have apologized & set up funds to assist these people in finding family etc. This program ended in 1960s & was based on lies. Thank goodness for people who do care about abuse & injustice & who are willing to stand up & make Canada a better place & not content to do nothing, "like a pussycat sitting in a sunny window looking out at a semi-starved kitty in the mud," (N. McClung)
