who the hell thinks you actually fly a UAV??? RQ-1 predators are flown completely by GPS and a computer... the only inputs the operator has are to adjust the camera/laser pod and to give it co-ordinates to circle around...

I saw one shock wave in my life and it scared the piss out of me lightning struck a Telephone pole or whatever in front of my house and sent out a shockwave which was actually cool

@TheBulitt There are plenty of UAVs that can be "flown" or piloted. Check out the raven, puma, wasp and many others. Technically there is a manual mode for the predator as well but few are privy to how to engage it nor would they really want to. The easiest thing to do with a uav in all cases is just lay in your waypoints and flight mode but they all have a manual mode and varieties of simi-manual modes. Just say'in.

@medaguy123 There's very little reason to do the kind of a maneuver that would cause a blackout. Even so, the aircraft itself is in danger of structural problems with the kinds of maneuvers I think you're getting at. There are limitations to the aircraft that have nothing to do with the pilot being there or not.

@medaguy123 Not a chance in hell. A pilot has awareness and is better when dealing with a lot of issues in combat, mostly in a close air support role. You'll see more unmanned aircraft, for sure, but pilots aren't going anywhere.
