Sorted PS3 Hard drive

Just wanted to add to Youtube what I have done lesurely with my hard drive so as to have media at my fingertips on the PS3.

Its got the (2nd) maximum physically possible hard drive (at the time) fitted got it almost a year ago for £60 [320gb formated to 298gb 5400rpm 2.5 SATA can't remember make], with a free case to use the old 40gb one as an external. But I traded that in at CEX store which RULES.

If any one wants tips that they can't find on the rest of Youtube you can bother my deserted account with whatever you like.

can you just put a External Hard Drive to you PS3? or do you have to put one in your ps3?

@jackie20ization you can connect any external hard drive via the usb on the ps3.

Or you can replace the standard factory internal hard drive. This option provides a smoother experience when trying to access any of the data. And you can sort the music/photos/videos with the play station software if the data is on the internal hard drive.

hey im gonna go buy a WD my book 1TB drive from wal-mart how do i Sorted The EHD to Read on my PS3 Hard drive ?

I believe a WD my book would have no problem connecting to the PS3, the PS3 should recognize it as normal.

I am afraid not. All game data must be installed onto the internal hard drive. Some save game files can be copied onto external storage, but like gt5 developers have prevented this since people could then share 100% completed game files.

@wmanns11 can i ask, i have the ancient 55gb ps3 (the one that can play ps2 games), anyway, i have run out of room being 55 gigs. just bought a 1tb external hardrive. now i know i have to format that external hdd into FAT32. but can i store new games data on the new drive? (gt5 was a healthy 8.5 gigs) as well as save data etc etc.does that make sense?
