Marilyn Manson's appearance at the Nothing Records showcase A Night of Nothing was the first venue of the Dead to the World tour. The performance, where guitarist Zim Zum made his live debut, took place on September 5, 1996 and consisted of five songs, before being cut short when Manson threw his microphone stand at drummer Ginger Fish, knocking him unconscious. A journal entry published in the autobiography The Long Hard Road Out of Hell reveals that the band did not want to perform at the showcase; in Manson's words, it "wasn't the beginning of the tour, it was one last favor." MansonWiki presents the second and final segment of the show: performances of "Dogma", "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" and "1996".

I was at this show, Standing 2 deep at the right side of the stage. The silence was pure shock after Manson hit Ginger and then Twiggy got him with the bass as well. We had no idea what was going on. Trent walked out after about 5 minutes and said Ginger was ok and on his way to the hospital and the NIN would be out in a few. Manson breaks down what happened in his book. He was pissed at Trent for asking him ''telling him'' they had to ply the show. MM was shot after the tour, they were done.
