What sort of repercussions happen due to this type of thing? License revoked, Nasty letter from the FAA, or just a severely dented ego? I've always wondered if as a pilot you were fucked immediately if you did something in High class airspace, or if, like here, it's treated as part of the learning curve, and hope it doesn't happen again.

@malamagr If the plane did not have a transponder that REALLY needs to be fixed like yesterday. however as far as you saying the authorities are being paranoid, to that i say after an incident like 9/11 where we were attacked in such a sickening and unexpected manor, a little caution is not to be unexpected OR overstated.

Firstly this is an example of "authorities' paranoia" after a prior incident (911), they keep assuming it's a "bad guy", saying things like "he's BUGGING OUT to the East", and "southbound, ON THE RUN", which is reading in malice when all it probably was is a guy who was lost probably a bit stupid, not evil.
Second, isn't every plane in the sky supposed to have a transponder? Clearly this one didn't, since they didn't know his ID or altitude, so no TCAS either? That's very bad, fix that please

I'm a NYC-area-based pilot of over 20 years intimately familiar with the area in and around B-space. I've never had an episode of spacial-disorientation over NY's congested airspace nor do I plan to but, it doesn't mean it won't ever happen.
Are you so self-righteous you're incapable of committing error?! The RV pilot was indeed a transgressor. Could you as a transient make the same mistake? Absolutely! :/
