"Suomalaisen ratsuväen marssi 30-vuotisessa sodassa"
"Finska Rytteriets Marsch i trettioåriga kriget"
"Marsch der Finnländischen Reiterei im 30-jährigen Kriege"

March of the Finnish Cavalry in the Swedish army during the Thirty Years War (1618 - 1648).

Lyrics:
"On Pohjolan hangissa meill' isänmaa
sen rannalla loimuta lietemme saa
käs' säilöjä käyttäiss' on varttunut siell'
on kunniall', uskolle hehkunut miel'

Kun ratsujamme Nevan vuossa juotettihin
Se ui kuni häihin yli Veikselinkin;
Se kalpamme kostavan Reinille toi
ja Tonavasta keisarin maljan se joi !"

Kun raunion, tuhkan yli lennetähän,
niin kaviotpa loimun luo säihkyävän'
Joka iskumme välkkyy kuin aamun koi
ja vapauden puolesta säilämme soi!"

---

Our homeland lies in the snows of the North;
the hearth of the home glowing warm and strong
Our hand has grown sure with playing the sword
and honour and pure faith lies in our record

At the river Neva our mounts did draw their first blood
like in a wedding march they went across the Vistula flood
Our swords they did bring to the Rhineland's coast
and by the Danube they raised up the Emperor's toast!

---

Melody from 1600's, lyrics by Zacharias Topelius, 1874.
The painting is Gustaf Adolf vid Lützen by Carl Wahlbom (1810 - 1858).

  • Interesting discussion ... about the war almost about 400 yrs ago! The important year is 1631 when Swedish troops won Germans close to Liepzig (Breitenfelt). The battle of Finland was a bit diffrent story.... 1734 in Turku Treaty (Turun Rauha), the frontier was in the river Kymi, the western branch. On 1809 in Hamina Peace, Russia took over rest of Finnish area from Sweden. I think then Finland started to suck, but after 1917 that ended!!! :-)

  • @LordOfVeil calm dow,we all know ur country started to suck after 1808

  • @darnjack0roll You make no sense. Me being or not being an ultranationalist has nothing to do with this.

    I know my history, while you started spreading bullshit about some feckin hakkapels and whatnot.

  • @LordOfVeil whatevr dude, stop being an ultranationalist and listen to history

  • @darnjack0roll Sweden did wage war succesfully after losing Finland. Yes, Sweden's strength was overall greatly reduced after losing Finland. Case closed.

  • @keisar11 Sverige var lika mäktiga då som U.S.A är nu.

  • @LordOfVeil oh yeah?! u just tryed to conguer denmark, but even in that u lost, admit it,sweden started to suck at wars after losing finland

  • @darnjack0roll Oh dear. You're putting your country to shame with such behavior. My country, that is.

    "Hackapelite" is an unofficial, foreign 1600's concept of a cavalryman in Sweden's military, resulting from the large number of Finnish-speakers among said troops (from southern Finland). It's entirely tied to said era. Sweden did have wars after losing the area of Finland. The later reluctance to wage war didn't result from lacking "hackapelites", or any other specific soldiery from Finland.

  • @LordOfVeil oh dear,i think i am right
