Canon G7 Dust Issue. G7 should be recalled?

My canon G7 had dust inside lens at 1.5 months. enough to notice in a photo.

at 2 months, the problem was alot worse.
by now, 5 months later, the camera is completely unusable for any real picturetaking.

Since when did canon start building cameras that need service every 2 months? Outragous.

I babied the camera and always kept it in clean pouches. No matter how hard you try... you cannot keep the dust out. Lets shame them into a recall.
The G7 is quite worthy of one.

Has anyone NOT had to service thier G7
within a few months??? I kinda doubt it.

I baught a camera, not one of those things you shake up and it snows inside.

Cannon has just repaired it under warrenty.

I have found no way to get an answer to the question I sent with the camera....

Have I bought a camera that needs to be sent in for cleaning every month and a half?

I was not informed if my camera was just cleaned or if something was fixed...

Nothing.

I can get nothing but automated responses...

"restored to original condition" is all Canon service center has on file. I thought I added that in my comment 2 months ago.

Same problem, same timing. I always buy canon, but now I find myself holding off replacing my old slr... Hopefully they do something about this and regain my trust.

I have the same issue with my G7. One month out of warranty

and Canon want £92 to fix a problem that has resulted from bad design.

if anyone else has this problem - buy a can of compressed air from a computer shop and blowing it around the lens and lens mechanism cleaned up my lens hugely - and i'm not aware of any damage to the camera.

Same problem here! Can't believe it. Past the one year warrenty even thoughhardly had any usage. Went down to the corner camera repair shop for an estimate, they want $150!!!! Same with another camera shop. Guy at the desk told me they've been seeing alot of this. Going to call Canon on Monday. This is total Bull Sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have just bought this camera second hand and noticed dust, i have no warrenty card (is this what u get when u buy it new?), would it cost a lot to get it cleaned by canon service center or another shop? thanks

There are lots of pro and semi-pro work where a DSLR isn't acceptable. Covert photography, spontaneous shots, working in a crowd etc. In the UK canon has poor customer service, as they don't repair cameras at all, they just recommend various companies that you can send it to - it's up to you to arrange everything! Then they pay the bill. Basically it's a lottery that the company you choose knows what they are doing.
