  • Nina I watching part 1 of the video and I noticed I crush my bottom lip, especially when playing very low notes like the C so I'm trying this new position.

I'm now playing low on the chin and rolled out but is it normal that everything now sounds even more airy? I'm also a lot more sharp now, and my tuner said I was extremely sharp as well. :(

  • @bewbala if it sounds airy and out of tune, it is not the correct position - it could be positioned wrong on your body and/or an issue with how you are angling the air into the flute. USE your ear as a guide always and if you want a lesson or consulatation with me, let me know.

  • ok. this kinda sorta answers my concerns. um. how long does this take to perfect exactly? XD cuz i only have about 2 wks.....

  • In 2 weeks your sound will be 2 weeks better than it is today, hopefully! You will never stop working on sound production, it is something your perfect and maintain your entire musical life. I have been playing more than 25 years and I still work on it regularly!

  • ok so i started the flute about 6 months ago and i played with it on my lip like you not supposed to do lol and i got good sound and im trying the way your teaching and its coming out a lot worse sounding and airey is it that im not used to the sound or is it im not angleing it right?? i have to march in the parade on saturday for the 4th of July playing the flute and im prolly just gonna go back to the old way cuz it sounds better and i get a lot more sound out of it prolly cuz its still new :)

  • gymnastman: Use your ear to guide you. If the sound is worse, you are not in the correct position so don't play that way!!! Watch my video on "how to use my teaching videos"

  • What a great way to explain purity and resonance! I love your clear explanations...I'll be sure to pass on the wisdom to my students. You are surely changing the flute world for the better. Bless you!

  • That's really really great!! But sometimes when I am playing the flute for a few minutes non-stop, i got saliva in my mouth and the sound is no longer sweet. What should I do?

  • Hi Nina!!!! Why is it so hard to geta high F sharp and a high E natural? Everytime I try to play it it starts of rough and the note either comes or doesnt come at all. Do you have an suggestions? Thank you!!!!! =)

  • Nina would you be so kind to explain once more how to add resonance to the sound? Just write the main principles please. Thank you very much. You are the great teacher in the world!!!

  • will our tips help me play with my piccolo?

  • Thumbs up if Mrs. Townsend told u to go here during school...

  • Will keep trying.. but still unable to play using that technique.. its kinda hard :)

  • cool demo. Flute is one of those instruments that is all about embouchure muscle tone. One needs to practice every day for at least 2 hours. You know when you have achieved the correct embouchure when it seems like you are using the same embouchure for low notes as you use in the highest register. It is amazing, then, how easy it is to bounce between registers.

  • @GhilledM21 Me! I'm a Guy!

  • Hmm any guy flutes here? Haha

  • I have an issue, when playing, to roll my bottom lip in. It seems it's a habit that was developed unknown to my middle school band teacher (who blamed it on my flute since it's open holed) and myself. Your videos help me a lot, do you have any ideas on how I could work on stopping this habit?

  • Thank you so much Nina. I am wondering - is it a good idea to practice with a tuner?
