Panel discussion and video documentary examining the state of the fisheries in the Klamath River watershed and how the lives of the Karuk Native American people are impacted by the loss of traditional foods, such as salmon, and their traditional way of life. This complex case of the Karuk Tribe is just coming under the national spotlight as today's most important case of tribal social and environmental justice. [9/2005] [Science] [Show ID: 11003]
I take offense to the term "crooks" used for Karuk. We are a recognized tribe. You do not know that all of them/us sell the fish out of the backs of the pickups for whiskey/drug money! I have never even drank alcohol nor have I ever done drugs! nor do any of my children, who are full grown and have families of their own! So, please do not lump everyone into your prejudicial diatribe. By the way I am part Karuk and Shasta, as well as white

the crooks (karuks) are not even a recognized tribe ... they string gillnets from bank to bank supposedly for subsistence but sell the fish out of their pickups for whiskey/drug money
