Mayfly - Belle and Sebastian (If You're Feeling Sinister)

2, 3, 4...
Lovesick on a sunny afternoon,
You are tired of staying in,
You are waiting for a sign.
Mayfly, woken up when skies are clear,
I don't mind you coming near,
Keep me company til she comes again.

You are the one who's making do,
I am the one who's privy to,
Cause you saw him in the park,
Cause you saw him at the bridges
With the people in the dark.

Cana was the start of something big,
You are there in the beginning,
You were there to see him play.
Mayfly, woken up when skies are blue,
I don't mind the sight of you,
Keep me company till she comes again.

You are the one who's making do,
I am the one who's privy to,
Cause you saw him at the celebration
Standing at the side,
He had the moves to save the day,
But you would love him anyway.

Lovesick, you came back upon yourself,
You are the one left on the shelf,
You are incapable of playing the fool.
Longing, so what's different today?
You send the boy and girl away,
You are concerned with matters lofty.

But puzzled so it makes you sick,
Your diary's looking like the Bible
With its verses lost in time,
Lost in meaning to the people who surround you
It's a crying shame,
You know it's a crying shame,
You know it's a crying shame.

Mayfly, woken up when skies are blue,
I don't mind the sight of you,
Keep me company til she comes again.
Mayfly, woken up when skies are clear,
I don't mind you coming near,
Keep me company till she comes again,
La la la la,
She comes again,
La la la la,
She comes again,
La la la la la...

it's a difficult task to follow up the two previous songs on the album, haha

  • I just want to like this song SO much... but I don't.

  • @FungusMossGnosis Lol, whatever gets you through the night. Conjecture aside however - Nationwide used it first, and have ever since. Cheers mate.

  • @funcdoktor

Alright, so here are the links you gave:

    youtube . com /watch?v=0rJBg0TZ0nM

    /watch?v=dUTbSV4Q6EI

Wow, before my time for sure!

The first one I can definitely here a similarity to part of the melody. It's entirely possible that it was only coincidence, or maybe subconscious. I don't know how likely it is they heard those old commercials back in Scotland.

If it's homage, it is obscure.

Anyway, it's not enough of a lift that the original writer could claim copyright infringement.

  • @funcdoktor "Friends only"

That sure wasn't intentional. Youtube keeps fiddling around with my settings. I'll do what I can in the next day to set it right.

I'll be happy to finally get these links -- it's been bothering me every waking hour these past couple Months! I've been on medications to keep me from leaping off buildings because of it.

    Good tidings.

  • @FungusMossGnosis I have two links which I can neither post on this page nor DM to you as you locked your box to 'friends only'. Let me know if you're still interested :)

  • @bobbydylanio lol, you missed the stick altogether I'm afraid. Passionate speech though, you should put that self-righteous fervor to use.

  • @funcdoktor Hipsters? Is that a joke. You one of these people that doesn't like people that listens to bands that dont have countless millions of fans? Make you feel better for liking masses friendly dog shit? Sorry If i got the wrong end of the stick here only you mentioned the word hipster twice, makes you sound like a crank.

  • @funcdoktor

Don't be nuts. It's obscure enough that I couldn't find out what you're talking about after digging through 3 pages on tube under "Nationwide" search.

    No such jingle found yet.

Can you prove said jingle as been around before this record? If not, shush now.

  • @FungusMossGnosis Nationwide obscure? Took an expert did it? Well if anything, you've proved your hipster credentials, which means you should do the digging lol
