Amy Goodman of Democracy Now discusses the 'Algerian chapter' of "The Great War for Civilisation" with Robert Fisk, the author, where many issues are debated: the civil unrest in France, its colonial past in Algeria, the screening by the Pentagon of The Battle of Algiers and the ongoing war in Iraq. Good stuff...well.. not bad......

  • There is no comparison to do. The mistake is to assimilate the algerian people to a afghani or iraki people. Even algerians are muslims, they have a mediteranean berber culture not an arabo-islamic culture...

  • I can't establish the relationship. Could you explain?

  • @R1DIKAL WTF, which era of what univers do you come from? we are in planet earth

  • from the us--the harkis should never be forgiven any more than the Vlasov divisions the USA is a monster but what my father saw at Setif --he tells me makes France worse--Algerian people have told me one could hear the screams from torture in the street I thought nothing could be worse than US Imperialism and torture but this may be worse long live Algeria!

  • qu'est ce que c'est que ce fantasme?

  • @Tarapsa

    where do you come from?

  • @muimrm No! Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia are special! They are Magrheb and they are the decendants of Cartage. Arabs are different. Don't make mistake and compare yourself to Arab. You are better.

  • @muimrm Actually I don't even know French and probably will never want to speak it or have anything to do with it. All I'm saying is that just because you speak a language doesn't mean you are ancestrally related to the original speakers. Thats like saying just because people in India speak English they should know be called English. You get what I'm saying?

  • @tenkirulez

you are counting French an official language so that you don't call yourself Arabic.

    shame shame.

  • @muimrm And infact there are a whole crap load of berbers. The fact Algeria's national languages are Arabic and Tamazight shows a lot speak more than Arabic. Also the official language is actually french and arabic.

  • @muimrm There are also more religions than just Islam, and there are just as much berbers as there are Arabs. Just because some people speak a dialect of Arabic that doesn't even sound like the Saudi Arabic doesn't mean they are ancestrally Arab. The fact is that Islam might be the dominant religion but its not the only one.

  • @tenkirulez

    Algeria is Arab and Muslim.

    Official language:Arabic

    Only written language:Arabic

Religion: Islam, no religion even comes close.

I'm fine with Berber culture but I think it's not worth making a divide between the rest of the Arab nations.Do Berbers even have a written language?
