Silver Mountain Christmas Trees developed the Reciprocating Undercutter Wrencher for use in our own state of the art nursery-the newest and largest Conifer nursery in the Pacific Northwest. Here is what it does:
After the crop has grown, it is essential that the roots be pruned to increase the root density close to the soil surface. The Silver Mountain Reciprocating Undercutter/Wrencher:
-Allows very clean cuts across the bottom of the seedling bed without dragging or sweeping the roots.
-Can work with very small trees, cutting 2" under the surface.
-Loosens the trees and allows them to harden.
-Has a reciprocating Wrencher blade set at a fixed 15-degree angle.
-Has a blade made of surgical (stainless) steel.
-Cuts hardwood roots up to 3/4" thick.
Silver Mountain Christmas Trees has more than 3,500 acres planted in Christmas Trees, and developed the Silver Mountain Christmas Tree Nursery, the newest and largest Conifer Seedling Nursery in the Pacific Northwest. The farm also harvest approximately 250,000 trees each year, shipping fresh Christmas Trees throughout the U.S. and the world.
We grow noble fir, douglas fir, fraser fir, grand fir, and canaan fir. Our seeds are developed in our own seed orchard and planted using our Vacumn Precision Seeder. During the production of the first two years, the roots will be properly trimmed using our Reciprocating Undercutter Wrencher and our Lateral Root Pruner. All three of these machines were developed for our own use and are now sold throughout the world to other nurseries.

Since most root growth occurs in the fall, the wrenching is done in early fall after heavy irrigation.
The moist soil prevents wilting and also
lubricates the blade as it cuts. The Undercutter/Wrencher may be operator-adjusted on the go, controlling either side wheel's depth independently for an even and consistent cut across the bed.
