Strategy Description:

Battle begins: 00:38

Guides will tell you that it'll take 2-3 Staggers to defeat 1 boss, but here I defeat them with 1 Stagger each. The trick is in maximising your Stagger time.

Between Vanille and Sazh, only Vanille has the Medic role and IMO playing as Medic at this stage is really boring. Opted for Doctor's Code and Potions, and ended up using just 6 Potions throughout the course of the battle.

Other than that, ensure party is healed and buffed up, target is debuffed before Staggering; you don't want to waste precious Stagger time re-casting spells.

As highlighted in my previous video, using a non-Ravager class to slow down the rate of decrease of the Chain Gauge right before you Stagger it can significantly extend the Stagger duration. Stagger is where serious damage is dealt and you want to maximise its duration whenever possible.

Secondly, you should have obtained Sazh's Procyons (weapon) in this chapter. You must let Sazh Stagger the enemy so as to enjoy the special Procyons' ability: Stagger Maintenance (10% increase at level 1, 30% increase in its Ultimate Weapon form).

Thirdly, they use this spell 'Bellow' which dispels all negative effects and grants a whole bunch of bonuses: this is game-changing. So shift back to SAB/RAV after Stagger and re-apply that Deshell debuff; you'll need that to defeat it in 1 Stagger. Don't spend more than a turn with this Paradigm; you need to interrupt the Staggered target's attacks because they hurt really bad with Bravery! You also want to defeat them within the Stagger duration because you can't interrupt their attacks anymore when it ends. Earlier, I had Vanille cast Deprotect even though it wouldn't affect any of my damage; debuffs and buffs affect your chain bonuses on enemies. When I Staggered them however, Deprotect wasn't that crucial so I dropped it in favour of Deshell, to increase the chance of it succeeding.

Guides usually recommend to take both of them down together, by letting them damage each other with their Raging Torrent/Tempest spells, or to take Enlil down first, because it has what, 70,000 HP compared to Enki's 75,000. I started off taking Enki down first though, as I had Sazh learn Thunder already (he didn't have access to Water). But you should notice that I defeated them both in 1 Stagger each quite easily, so I think just having Thunder and Water on Vanille will do.

1. Equip Vanille with Doctor's Code, and heal with Potions whenever a party member is one hit away from death.
2. Start the battle by sticking Poison on both bosses, and Deshell/Deprotect on your preferred target.
3. Let Sazh cast Bravery/Faith/Vigilance on both characters.
4. Raise the Chain Gauge.
5. Before you Stagger the target, let Sazh slow the rate of decrease by attacking as a Commando.
6. Let Sazh Stagger it.
7. Shift to SAB/RAV 1 turn later, after target Bellows, and apply Deshell.
8. Chain it to death using RAV/RAV, abusing the Paradigm Refresh mechanic.
9. Stick Poison/Deshell/Deprotect on the remaining target.
10. Repeat steps 4-9.

6 Potions were used.

My characters' stats:

Vanille w/ Belladonna Wand
Doctor's Code

HP 545
STR 64
MAG 74

Sazh w/ Procyons
Magician's Mark (MAG: +20)

HP 605
STR 77
MAG 91

I try to avoid fights except for Treasure Spheres and enemy intel, so my characters are rather under-leveled.

Battle Results: 03:36

Un-equip all accessories from Sazh and Vanille after this battle.
