The Informer
Directed by John Ford in 1935

A brutish but well-meaning Irishman, Gypo Nolan (Victor McLaglen), informs on his best friend Frankie McPhillip (Wallace Ford), who is a member of the Irish Republican Army, in order to collect the reward of £20 and sail to America with his girlfriend Katie Madden (Margot Grahame). The film traces his conscience-stricken emotional disintegration that eventually leads him to give himself away.

  • Okay, where's part 2?

  • @1798Greenflag1916 And the Tan War was over by then.

  • @grabit1 I misspelled "laureate." It's the grog.

  • It's available on DVD in a very fine version (I own it), but it might not be available as a single since it was part of a John Ford collection, which I also have. It is a terrific film, although a bit old-fashioned even when it was released. Must be the Irish in Ford. I have the Irish, too, and don't mind being old-fashioned. Within five years, John Ford became the poet laurete of American Films, to us and the rest of the world. This is just an opening course of his genius.

  • This film is dated 1922 and or 1935 no film is copyright protected from those years but Warner Brothers do just that as some claim Happy Birthday from the 1880s I hope they all burn in hell.
