I'm practicing making roses from modeling clay so I can make them (and other flowers) out of fondant or sugar paste for cake decorating.

  • Plain fondant will work fine.

  • Thank you! :-)

  • you know, tootsie rolls and starbursts make great roses and aren't TOO sour with sweet cakes......especially the tootsie rolls, people just LOVE them. You really need to get some gumpaste, roses are one of the harder flowers to do....and play dough is WAY harder to work with than gumpaste because it can break so easily it doesn't stretch at all! I can just imagine what you will be able to make with gumpaste!!!

  • Cool, Kristina! Thank you so much. Do you have a web site or any decorating videos? I'd love to check them out.

  • what a wonderful job you've done!!! Is that regular play dough???? Have you ever thought about making sugar flowers??? You certainly have a knack for it, I think making them from play dough is MUCH harder than with gumpaste or fondant!

  • Thank you! That's so sweet of you. It is regular play dough. I thought I'd start with that until I work up the nerve to work with actual gumpaste. :-)
