Cloud became an assassin...as an assassin he is trained not to fall in love, though he has many girlfriends over the years....even a boyfriend (o.o ^^) though eventually he leaves or betrays them all...they become targets for another assassin and each one dies. Cloud doesnt realize until many years later that he really did like or love every one of them. By then it's too late. All the love and regret hits him all at once and then he is given another mission: to kill Sephiroth. Cloud sees his way out and the only way he thinks to redeem himself to those hes loved. And he takes it.
